The Cleage-Wills

Built to ramble

This lightweight travel banjo is fashioned with a Walnut neck and pot assembly. It’s built to travel easy, with a shorter A-scale neck and a narrow 4-inch width.

Designed for comfort and playability, the Bad River travel banjo is naturally lower in volume for solo practice sessions. It sits as well in your lap as it does in your back seat — and can be played while riding shotgun or lounging around the motor lodge.

It is fitted with old-style Champion friction tuners and a patented internal Maple tone ring frame. It comes with a custom case that is designed in the tradition of an old wooden shipping crate — with a sliding lid, leather handle and matching interior support straps.

Custom Banjo Features
  • Walnut construction with patented Maple tone ring assembly

  • Fretted Ebony fingerboard (scooped) / Ebony peghead veneer

  • Nickel hardware / Ebony nut / Champion friction tuners

  • Handmade Ebony tailpiece /Natural goat skin head / Nylgut strings

  • Handmade Maple bridge / Custom hardwood travel case

A note about sustainable materials

I only use domestically harvested North American hardwoods (walnut, cherry and maple) along with sustainable fingerboard materials. I’ve replaced ebony with Richlite (a superior renewable alternative) in all of my newer banjos.
